Here at sixty years of age, I gaze into the mirror, practising the serene breathing of Hexiangzhuang Qigong, holding that secret gladness “smile as though not smiling” deep within.
When I settle my breath in the dantian, the sweet smile of granddaughter Taotao comes to mind. Grandson Longlong plays beside me in the garden.
I learn guitar now and plan to master piano, dreaming of a small family band for our household delight alone, seeking no applause from the outer world.
Though retired, I still reflect upon my life’s calling. Every morning my eyes turn toward eastern ridges.
Not grief for passing years, but quiet self-examination: nurture the spirit, cherish the grandchildren, make music at home, and keep faith with one’s lifelong mission.
